My and My Sister Designs, Part II

Here is Part II of Me and My Sister Designs' post! Check out their beautiful studio and a sneak preview of their upcoming collection, Strawberry Lemonade.

BARB Mary and I both live in the metro Phoenix area and since we only live about three miles apartsee each other almost every day! Most of the pattern designing and shipping is done at Mary’s house and we work on the fabric designs at mine. We both love to shop and are always on the lookout for new designs. One of our pattern designs came from a seat cushion at a Chick Fil-A restaurant...and a drink mix inspired our next line of fabric being debuted this October in Houston! Its called Strawberry Lemonade!

My studio is a large space made by removing the wall between the living room and an adjacent bedroom. Since I am fortunate to have an older home with a huge formal living room that no one ever used, I was able to add the bedroom for one very spacious and bright room. I have filled it with lots of colorful furniture and fabric.

There are two things that I love about my studio. First is Bella (one of my three dogs) who sleeps on the covered chair in the corner. My second favorite thing is an old Ralph Lauren store fixture. It was used to hold blue jeans, so it has huge pull out drawers and a cutting surface that can hold three cutting mats!

MARY After my daughter went away to college, I took over her bedroom as my sewing room. Then I proceeded to take over the guest room for my office!

My studio is filled to the brim. I have an extra large walk in closet that is packed with fabric...most of which is Barb's because she doesn’t like clutter. So I get it! There is lots of light. I can hide in there for hours away from the TV and the kitchen. My favorite thing about my studio is the view. My sewing machine fits into a bay window that looks out onto my patio, pool, and yard. And, of course, I
love when my grand cat, Earl, comes to visit me!

These two have so much going on--since they wrote this entry, they've come out with a new book called Sew Fun, So Colorful Quilts, which ships October 15.

We are so excited to be introducing our first book with Martingale/ That Patchwork Place! Together we have come up with 9 wonderful projects that use strip sets, folded corners and other quick piecing tricks. The quilts in this book are simple, lively, whimsical and unique! It truly reflects our motto "Happy Quilting"!

Thanks!
Barb and Mary
