Joanna Figueroa on "Dandelion Girl"

We have been chatting up a storm about this new line here at the Fat Quarter Shop, and now that it's here, we're even happier!! Dandelion Girl is the newest collection by Fig Tree Quilts, full of that trademark palette of soft creams, cinnamons, and olive greens. Joanna Figueroa (also one of our Designer Mystery BOM headliners) talks to us today about the creation of Dandelion Girl.

Well hello Jolly Jabbers,

I am glad to be back again to talk a bit with y’all--even though I’m a true blue Californian, one of my closest friends from college lives in Austin and she has schooled me on terms like “y’all” and “hook ‘em horns” so that I can fit in with the Texan way of doing things like Kimberly does!

Dandelion Girl

Kimberly has asked me to tell you a bit about my newest Spring collection of fabric for Moda, Dandelion Girl! It was inspired by an enchanting little vintage image of a small girl sitting in a meadow surrounded by dandelions... reminding me so much of my own little dandelion girl Ella, age 3, that I couldn’t resist the name or the inspiration!

So many different words come to mind when I think of describing Dandelion Girl... It surely is a soft, delicate, fresh, romantic, vintage, creamy, line of little prints, large florals, gingham and a wonderful mosaic. It really has a very broad appeal and is not too sweet and not too “flowery,” but yet still so feminine. We’ve created it so that depending on which prints & colors you choose to use together, you can create a wide variety of looks with just this one line.

Not only that, but it is also accompanied by an entire complimentary group of wonderful wovens which include seersuckers, patchworks, tickings and plaids. I think it's wonderful for so many spring time projects including charming girl clothes, fresh table cloths & napkins and “shabby chic” porch pillows. I’ve also really enjoyed mixing it with other of our lines for a wonderful eclectic look - try using any of your leftover Allspice Tapestry or Urban Indigo... Some of the combinations are really wonderful!

We have several patterns already out in the marketplace that use this wonderful line (and we are working on a few new ones for Spring Market) and Kimberly has them all; Blossom made with the new Layer Cakes and Heritage made with Fat Quarters are both special Fat Quarter Shop kits so you don’t want to miss those while supplies last! Jelly Oh’s is a wonderful Jelly Roll pattern that has been selling like crazy. Sugar Drops, Dandelion Bloom and Plain & Simple are a few other great Dandelion Girl related patterns that you should definitely check out.

Studio Updates

We are currently busy working on our next line of fabric that will be debuted for stores at the Portland Market in May... I think Kimberly will like it!

I haven’t had a chance to share the name yet....well....I guess I have a chance now... its called Fig & Plum. And yes you guessed it, it has wonderful tones of soft plum, fresh grass green and cream of course. We’ve mixed in a beautiful warm grey, mauve, and light orange. We are currently working on strikeoffs and can’t wait to show y’all how it comes out in the end! If you are interested in seeing new updates, come by Fresh Figs to check out some of our newest creations or sign up for our regular newsletter, Fig News, and we will send you regular updates of new patterns and the newest information about our fabric lines & swatch sneak peeks .... and of course we will always keep Kimberly posted so she can provide you will all of our fabrics all the time!

I look forward to talking with you again soon!
