Sugar Snap by Melissa Averinos

We didn't have the pleasure of meeting Melissa Averinos at Market this time around, but from just talking to her via the ole world wide web, I already feel warm and sort of fuzzy! Melissa's first line of fabric, Sugar Snap, is going to fill you with that same sort of warm, fuzzy, happy vibe. Her uptempo, whimsical contemporary prints in bright contrasting colors, like cocoa, jade, and vibrant plum, will add lots of life to any project! Have you made something with Sugar Snap? Send it to us and add it to her photo group!

I'm so happy to be here to do a little Jolly Jabbering! Well, I'll go for 'upbeat'. I don't know if I can pull off 'jolly'!

I live on Cape Cod in a big old house with my sweetie and his 3 kids and our 2 cats and 2 dogs. I'm a human lint-roller.
See how the Cape looks like an arm curled to show a Popeye muscle? I live at the bicep, in West Barnstable. Any other year, you could count on finding me dirty in the garden as long as it's over 50 degrees. (Barefoot if it's over 65.)
This year was different, with all of my attention being focused on launching Sugar Snap, my sweet and spunky debut fabric collection for Free Spirit/Westminster Fibers. I'm glad plants are forgiving and weeds are pretty, because the jungle in the backyard will have to do without me till spring! Here, let's take a look at Sugar Snap:Composed of 7 designs in a total of 15 prints, Sugar Snap is my dream come true.
Peek-a-boo!It is such a treat to finally be sewing with my own fabric!
The most exciting thing for me is seeing what other people are making with Sugar Snap. I created a flickr group called Melissa Averinos Fabrics (I know, the originality is astounding) and I would love any of you to add your Sugar Snap photos to the pool. It just makes my day when I see a beautiful handbag or wristlet made with my designs on it.I'm a busy girl - I just opened Yummy Goods, a small gift boutique on Cape Cod:That's my sweetie putting up our sign. Isn't he cute? Here I am in my shopgirl apron:Creating the environment and the displays has been such a wonderful new creative outlet! Here's a bunch of beautiful handmade soaps and crocheted washcloths displayed in an old claw-foot tub:In addition to many handmade items, I feature the books and stationery of some of my fellow Free Spirit/Westminster designers. My sweetie scored this vintage Singer/cabinet at an estate sale and I knew immediately that I would use it to display the sewing books:Yummy Goods is just a couple of buildings away from my house and I wanted it to feel like home. To that end, I painted it the same color as our living room- pink! Actually, the color is called "Cheery" and it is!Having a couch is a necessity, if it's to feel homey, right? That's my Sugar Scrap quilt draped over the seat.Yep, we have Quirky Hours at the shop. Well, I am still working a regular job, plus designing - can you blame me? And I just keep getting busier. I'm blogging a thorough recap of my experience at Fall Quilt Market and just this week, there are some awesome new projects I'm working on- two new products to coordinate with Sugar Snap and a magazine feature that I am prepping my studio for!Well, I better get back to work if I'm gonna make those deadlines. For more photos, news and juicy honesty visit me at my blog www.yummygoods.com!
