Melly & Me Toy Patterns

Perhaps we've got baby fever -- we've got it bad for these toy patterns from Melly & me! It's a step into a new pattern zone for Fat Quarter Shop, but heck, if they aren't just the cutest little creatures! It's a veritable menagerie, from owls and hippos to reindeer and even the imaginary (anybody have a better term for this Acute toy?). Anyway, Melly is with us today to tell us a bit more about these "softies"!

Thank you so much for the opportunity to be a part of the Jolly Jabber once again. I am so thrilled that the Fat Quarter Shop has now started to stock in our range of fun and quirky toys.

It was almost 3 years ago when Rosie was diagnosed with breast cancer that we began to create our softie friends. At first the toys were created purely as a fun thing to do that kept us laughing and kept spirits high. We had so much fun and created these new creatures with no rules or expectations but purely as a form of therapy. It was so exciting for us when other people seemed to be getting excited about them too and started asking for patterns. So we started to add a softie range to our collection of patterns and we have been so overwhelmed by how these designs have been embraced worldwide.

Now making softies is a complete addiction, so be careful and start with caution as you will get addicted!!

I think that softies are such a fabulous sewing project to take on as they give people a way to be more experimental with fun fabrics that they otherwise might be scared to use. They allow people to get in touch with the inner child and to just have fun! I can honestly say that the feeling of a completed softie is just so satisfying, each one has his own personality and they never fail make me smile and laugh.

My most recent softie pattern is this cute little birdie duo Twitter, which will be at FQS quite soon! I had so much fun making these guys up and I hope they will brighten up plenty of people's homes this Spring.

I have made a few more gorgeous softies recently that are yet to be revealed. They will be part of my first book, "Kaleidoscope" which I am ever so excited about. The book will be a collection of projects that will be suitable for everyone; from that sweet new born baby to the children, men and special girlfriends in your life. Kaleidoscope should be hitting the shelves in Early June and I can't wait!!

Thank you so much again for letting us be a part of this fabulous blog and I hope you have fun with our crazy little critters.
