Have you ever simply fallen in love with a fabric line so much, that you drop everything just so you can sew with it? For me Rouenneries, by Kaari Meng was one of those lines. It was love at first sight. When I saw the fabric, it absolutely took my breath away. I couldn’t wait to design with it!

Le Jardin started as a rough sketch in my notebook, and the quilt took shape as I worked with the fabric. Never before have I used a single fabric line for a block of the month. I almost always have to pull in lights, darks, solids and other colors from different lines. Rouenneries was just perfect as it was. I loved the French reds, and the vintage took of the fabric and when it came time to put it all together it worked.

I wanted the French red to be the dominant color in the quilt, but I couldn’t help myself when I put in the gray paisley bunny. You’ll find her in block number one. She’s the only gray bunny in the quilt and she symbolizes the individuality in all of us.

I tried to create my idea of the perfect garden . . . it would include a rabbit fence, heart topiaries, fat little birds with a place of their own , a cottage for me, and of course bunnies and lot of flowers. Now put Le Jardin in France and we can all move right in!

I hope you enjoy making Le Jardin as I much as I enjoyed designing it!
