Good Things To Come
Hi guys!
It's been quiet around here...we've been focusing so much energy and attention on the future. The things to come at Fat Quarter Shop. Sounds mysterious, but isn't at all, because you can just see all these things on our Coming Soon page. :P It's pretty full, isn't it? 11 pages for you to gaze upon with pleasure!
But SherriQuilts points out that "fall is such a long ways off!" and we tend to agree... so somewhere in all our free time (did someone just scoff?) we've created a new BOM and we're starting sign-ups now!!
We're really proud of it...it's called Pennsylvania Dutch Block of the Month (thanks for the name, Debbie!) and it stars the Spring Market release collection from Minick & Simpson, Wiscasset. It is Lovely!! Kudos to Kimberly for the beautiful piecing! And of course many thanks to Polly and Laurie and Audrey Wright (of Starwood Patterns) without whom we would never have had the inspiration! Ok ok...so enough with the award acceptance speeches!!
The instructions are super clear, thorough, and easy to follow, and we've planned it so that you'll have ample fabric to use in case you mis-cut a piece...no one's perfect all the time, right? You surely won't be short on your fabric! Each block will only take 1-2 hours to complete (pretty sure Kimberly wouldn't have even tried it if it took longer ;) and over a year you'll have a quilt completed in hardly any time at all!
So sign up today, and even reserve your backing! We've got high hopes for this BOM and we'd love you to be part of it!

Peppermint Cottage by Diane Knott
Diane Knott does it again! The follow up to her last collection, Summertime, is here and it's the polar opposite...the North Pole really. Har har har :) Peppermint Cottage is filled with her wonderful illustrations of gingerbread houses, smiling gingerbread men, and other scrumptious holiday goodies. And the panel? Adorable. Her watercolor blues, reds, greens, yellows and creams add to the bright and cheery mood that will make you dream of fireplaces and sweets left for Santa. And definitely check out the free pattern provided by Clothworks! What will it inspire you to make?
Hi Everyone!
It's "that" time of year again! Bundle up and put your woolies on because it's cold outside! Well, not really, but it IS that time of year when companies start shipping Christmas fabrics to the stores and Clothworks is no exception! My Peppermint Cottage is finding its way to store shelves and I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out.
I'm not much of a cook. Anybody who knows me can tell you that. Fortunately, I have a wonderful hubby who does cook and wonderfully! But I do like to bake for the holidays and gingerbread is one of my favorite treats. Although rolling dough and cutting out gingerbread cookies isn't one of my favorite things to do! :-( I'm more of a drop cookie kind of gal. So what's the best way to enjoy gingerbread men? Why with Peppermint Cottage of course! Not only gingerbread men but gingerbread houses and cottages too! I can't wait to cut into my own stash of it and begin to make some holiday things. I guess, even though it's warm, I'll have to put some Bing Crosby Christmas music on and pretend it's snowing outside instead of beach weather! ;-)
I do hope you enjoy cutting into it and sewing up all kinds of holiday fabric goodies for yourself and for gifts. I wanted the collection to speak of happy holidays, peppermint and gingerbread scents wafting through the air, jolly gingerbread men making children smile and just have an all-around feeling of warmth!
Please do visit me at my own blog and share your projects with me. I'd love to post them. In the meantime, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and have a wonderful summer before the north winds start to howl!
Blessings!

New Patterns from G.E. Designs
Happy Friday! Before we get to our main focus for today's post, just wanted to show off the lovely blocks we received this week from Barbara Lee for our Jolly Jabber Block Lottery! She made up our Designer Mystery block designs in black and white, and they're just gorgeous. Thanks, Barbara! The lottery runs until June, so keep sending in your blocks!
Gudrun Erla of G.E. Designs has just released a few new patterns and a book that we L.O.V.E. They use precuts (for you Bake Shop lovers), and they are just so fun and unique and neat. Just...really. Go check them out LOL!
Hello my dear Jabbers,
I am extremely excited about sharing with you my new products. After a little break from writing books I decided to get back in the saddle this year and now I have a brand new book back from the printer; Fast & Furious – quilting as you go. As the name reveals it is a book filled with “Quilt As You Go” projects that are all really “Fast” and easy to make. The book has 17 projects in all shapes and sizes; table runners, baby quilts, place mats, bags and coasters. Most of the projects are designed with the use of the ever popular precuts in mind (Charm squares, Layer Cakes, Jelly Rolls, Honey buns and Fat Quarters). The table runner on the cover of the book is Afternoon Snack and the bag is called Strip To The Beach Bag. It is a nice, big bag that can fit all of your stuff whether you are hitting the beach, yoga class or quilt club. All you need is a Jelly Roll and some lining fabric. Both of those projects are made with my new fabric line called Glow from Red Rooster Fabrics which will be introduced this spring and in stores in the fall. Here are some samples of the other projects in the book.
Tea Time Honey, Skinny Minnie and Honey Catchers coasters were for example all made from a single Honey Bun (1-1/2” strips)! For these projects I used the wonderful line of fabric from Fig Tree called Patisserie. These projects are just so fresh and the fabric makes them so romantic. I will be using mine on the patio this summer sipping pretty drinks and serving baked goodies.
Tree Time placemats are done with the leftover layer cake pack I used for the Stack’Em Up runner. The fabric I used is Figgy Pudding by Basic Grey and I have to say it is one of my all time favorite Christmas lines. I will definitely be stocking up on it here at the Fat Quarter Shop to make some Christmas goodies of my own.
There are three baby quilts in the book and this one is so fast and fun. It is called Sweet Chirps and is made from Feathered Friends fabric by In The Beginning fabrics. My little model is my adorable neighbor Quinn, he just loved playing on the quilt. You can make the quilt with only 8 fat quarters or a Layer Cake pack!
I also have two brand new patterns that I will be introducing at the show. Strip Maze is an addition to my strip pattern series. The pattern includes 3 sizes and is made with 2-1/2” strips only! Fast and fun with a little bit of a contemporary feel.
Moon Glow is another new pattern and includes a Twin size quilt with a table runner version also in the pattern. The quilt is simpler than it looks but looks stunning on a bed. Both of my single patterns are made from the Glow fabric line.
See the rest of the projects from the book at my blog.
Thanks to the gals at the Fat Quarter Shop for giving me the opportunity to share with all of you and thanks to you for reading.
Happy Quilting
Gudrun Erla

New Patterns from Cotton Way
Our store is bursting at the seams with gorgeous new fabrics and patterns, and we're still recuperating from Market, but we didn't want to miss highlighting a new set of patterns from one of our most tried and true pattern designers, Bonnie O. of Cotton Way. Her patterns never fail to give us that "Ooooh!" reaction. Today she talks about her favorite of the bunch of six, which include patterns for appliqué aficionados as well as those pressed for time (much like us LOL)! She and Camille R. (Thimble Blossoms) have got a new fabric line called Simple Abundance for Moda coming out in the Fall, so watch for more on that!
Hello Everyone at the Jolly Jabber!
My daughter Camille and I had been waiting patiently for our new fabric, Simple Abundance, to arrive so we could start cutting and stitching. It finally came and I have been having so much fun! Four of my new patterns feature it, and my favorite is Life's Journey. It uses a layer cake, has a soft edge appliqué and is a lot like life, up and down.
My new table topper, Abundantly Blessed, uses a charm pack that shows the whole line and is super easy and fast with the soft edge appliqué as well. If you have ever wanted to do a Cathedral Window quilt but didn't want to do all that appliqué, this project is for you.
My Candy Taffy pattern uses Joanna's, of Fig Tree Quilts, wonderful Patisserie line and looks yummy enough to eat. I couldn't resist doing the scalloped border.
I also have a new table topper pattern called Swirly, Twirly Table Topper using the Glacé line's dessert roll, and last but not least, my Big Blocks for Baby. If you have ever needed to throw a quilt together in a couple of hours, this is the one for you. Talk about instant gratification, one BIG block with BIG pieces! Sorry this is short and sweet, but I better get back to work.
Happy Stitching!

Market Giveaway Winners
Wow, we've been so busy adding new stuff to our site, I almost forgot to post the winners! Just kidding, that would be mean :)
So up for grabs were these two lovely bundles from Moda -- Rouenneries by French General and Authentic by Sweetwater. One by blog and one by tweet. Thank you for all your input and comments, it really helped motivate us to keep on going and blogging and tweeting!
Here are the two winners! Please e-mail me at jocelyn@fatquartershop.com for your Fat Quarter Bundle -- whoever emails me first gets their first choice!
SherriQuilts from Twitter: "@FatQuarterShop I've just visited your blog--the photos and giveaway are the BEST! I'd love to see photos of booths, patterns, and fabric!"
Kenton and Marianne Ogg from the blog: "I'm impressed that you even blog while you are there! I mean, we love to read about it and live through you, but I would be exhausted and probably a bit overstimulated. Thank you for keeping us up to speed! I would love to see the finished products, quilts that are brought and displayed. I'll try not to drool on the keyboard..."
Congrats!!!
Also, we finally sent out the last block for our first Designer Mystery Block of the Month club, where 12 talented designers each contributed one block design, which created a beautiful sampler in 3 Sister's Peace on Earth fabric. Which just means...
We're about ready to start the 2009 Designer Mystery Block of the Month. :P
This year's quilt will use Glacé by 3 Sisters, and there is also a finishing kit designed by our friend Brenda Riddle of Acorn Quilt & Gift Co. This BOM is our home page and newsletter feature of the week, so you can see a bit of it there too! The colors are romantic, and the quilt really sparkles. It starts in June, so use May to sign up :) Call or e-mail if you have any questions!
If you did the first BOM, what did you think?

Today was the last full day of Market :( We still have one more morning to go, then back home to TX! Of course we've got more pics to share, some especially exciting ones (according to me)!
This morning was so much fun -- there was a "tweet-up" organized by THE April Cornell. Barb & Mary had a book signing! We tried to recapture all the photos we'd lost yesterday! All the while being whisked from fabric appointment to fabric appointment! And meeting new pattern designers! It's a lot, but only our feet are complaining :P
Don't forget to enter our Rouenneries and Authentic Fat Quarter Bundles giveaway by commenting or tweeting! Ends Monday, we'll post the winners that day!
These photos are going to be more "people heavy" LOL! Just a few highlights tonight... I'm making them smaller so they won't take forever to open on your screen...just click to see the full set of photos!
"Heyyy I know you!!" Ran into Pam Kitty Morning, Late Bloomer Quilts, and Acorn Quilt & Gift Co. this morning. They have real names, too. ;)
