Designer Tidbits: Laura Berringer

The Fat Quarter Shop is excited to welcome Laura Berringer to the Jolly Jabber. Laura’s latest fabric collection is Flutter and Flowers from Marcus Brothers.

Q: What was the first seed that grew into the Flutter and Flowers collection?
A: A piece of artwork that I thought was so pretty and romantic looking without being too sweet. And it has lots of great elements: flowers, butterflies, and polka dots, plus a wonderful crackle texture. As for the name, we all brain stormed, tossing around various words associated with the motifs and came up with Flutter and Flowers, it seemed perfect!

Q: What are 3 words you would choose to describe this collection?
A:
1. romantic
2. pretty
3. delicate

Q: What single print/SKU in the collection is your favorite (can only pick one!)?
A: Probably the lead pattern in blue 8632-0122 because it has all the elements working together and was the original inspiration for the group.

Q: What is your dream project using this collection?
A: Little girls dresses. I have a great niece who just started walking and I would love to see her wearing a skirt or dress made with the group. I’d also like to make a small quilt for her because the full size quilt that Marcus Fabrics made for the May quilt show turned out so beautifully.

Laura's Silly Secrets:

1. What is your guilty pleasure food?
Avocados and chocolate - not together, of course ;) I don’t know which I love more, they are both so scrumptious!

2. Where did you grow up and where do you call home?
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA and went to college in Ohio. After graduating, I moved to NYC, and I’m still here.

3. Do you have any pets and what are their name(s)?
We have two pets, an 11 year old goldfish (yes, its true!) named Itchy and a hermit crab named Boo.

4. Your biggest pet peeve?
When dog walkers do not pick up after their pets (pardon the pun).

5. What color are you thinking about today?
Lilac and plum, they go so well with all the grays showing up now in fashion and fabric.
