Designer Tidbits: Rashida Coleman Hale

The Fat Quarter Shop is excited to welcome Rashida Coleman Hale to the Jolly Jabber for the first time ever. Rashida’s latest fabric collection is I Heart from Timeless Treasures.

Q: What was the first seed that grew into the I Heart collection?
A: I'd have to say my kids were a big influence on my designs. When I sat down to design this line, I don't think I really had any inspiration in mind. It's my first collection and I just knew I wanted it to be fun, colorful, and true to me and my style of sewing. Linen was an absolute must as well. Timeless also thought it would be great to name the line 'I Heart.." because of my blog 'I Heart Linen' and my book 'I Heart Patchwork'!

Q: What are 3 words you would choose to describe this collection?
A:
1. Playful
2. Spring
3. Cutebot-y goodness

Q: What single print/SKU in the collection is your favorite (can only pick one!)?
A: The CuteBots for sure! They were a design I created for a Spoonflower contest and it got a really great response. Girls like robots too, so I figured why not recolor them in a sweet and girly palette? I'd really LOVE to have them available in more colorways. (Hey, you never know! ^_~)

Q: What is your dream project using this collection?
A: My kids really love the CuteBots! So I'm planning to redo their rooms with some of the prints from the collection. My 5 year old daughter just happens to be a pink freak and my 3yo son just happens to LOVE blue and robots.

Rashida's Silly Secrets:

1. What music are you listening to right now?
Ella Fitzgerald's 'Manhattan'. I really miss living there and I'm an old soul. Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong time.

2. What is your guilty pleasure food?
Crème brûlée. Put that in front of me and I'll be at your beck and call.

3. Where did you grow up and where do you call home?
I bounced between a little town in Florida (Winter Haven) and Tokyo, Japan for many, many years, with some New York time sprinkled in between. My heart belongs to NYC or Tokyo for sure, so look for me in either of those cities when I'm old and grey. ^_^

4. Do you have any pets and what are their name(s)?
One meow. Her name is Kitty. I know, creative, right? :P

5. What is your favorite fabric print ever (excluding your own)?
A Pre Ple print by Kokka. It's a canvas in navy with orange, white, and yellow flowers all over. It has a really vintage look to it. I've got about 2 1/2 yards of it and I just can't bring myself to cut into it!
