Designer Tidbits: Lizzy House

The Fat Quarter Shop is excited to welcome Lizzy House to the Jolly Jabber. Lizzy’s latest fabric collection is Outfoxed from Andover Fabrics.

Q: What was the first seed that grew into the Outfoxed collection?
A: I really love the movie The Court Jester, and there is a Robin Hood type character that Danny Kaye stands in for, and his name is The Fox. Danny Kaye is actually just the Court Jester and is entertaining the troops and sings the song, "You can Never Outfox the Fox". I have always loved this, loved Danny Kaye, and loved foxes, so it all turned into this sly trickster fox, for whom I have a lot of love.

Q: If your collection had a soundtrack what would be on the list?
A:
Outfox the Fox: Danny Kaye
Samba de Orpheus: Vince Guaraldi Trio
Django: Vince Guaraldi Trio
Ginza Samba: Vince Guaraldi Trio
Showdown: ELO
Nattöppet: Detektivbyrån
Golden Cage: The Whitest Boy Alive

Q: What single print/SKU in the collection is your favorite?
A: It might seem odd.... and I LOVE the whole collection... like OBSESSED love, but I really just can't get over the tuft pattern in the Outwitted (green and yellow) colorway. I don't know why really, but it just seems so solid and like it would taste good, and it's like it radiates happiness. I'm just all about it.

Q: What is your favorite project you have made using this collection?
A: It's a toss up between my two new patterns. I'm all about The Colorist, but I'm beside myself about Outfox the Fox.

Q: What is your favorite part of working in the fabric industry?
A: The Peeps. I love my industry friends as well as the people I have come to know through twitter/ my blog/ flickr. I'm just grateful people like what I produce, and that they are nice enough to share with me what they have made.

Q: Can you give us a sneak-peek of your next fabric collection?
A: I can! Hello Pilgrim will be out in the Spring, and I think it's super sweet. It's a little more floral-ish than anything that I have done before, but it is still completely me, and it's kind of a conceptual love note for the journey that we are all on. If we stop to appreciate the good and the beautiful around us on a more regular basis I think we'll all be happier and more grateful for what we have.

It also coordinates beautifully with Outfoxed.

Q: What is your absolute favorite thing in your house?
A: My print called Miracle Fish. It is probably one of the pieces I am most proud of. It's a monoprint that I made using 400 paper cut fish. If I could marry this print I would. I love everything about it.

Q: Which project stands out in your memory as your all-time favorite?
A: The first quilt I ever made for myself really stands out to me as my all time favorite quilt. In all seriousness it changed my life.

Q: Where do you do your best thinking? Can we see a photo of your studio?
A: I do really great thinking when I go on walks. I must look like a crazy person. Writing in a notebook and talking to myself while going on a walk. As far as studios go... I kind of work all over my house. I live by myself and I am a Gemini. I work in different rooms on different days and that seems to work best for me. I follow the sun through my house like a little cat.

Q: What is your favorite snack food? Can we see a photo of your fridge or pantry?
A: It's not really a snack, but I am a Kombucha freak. If it's on sale, I will drink 2 a day. My favorite is the Synergy Strawberry Serenity!

Q: What is your one guilty pleasure in life?
A: The Legend of Zelda. Don't get me started. I'll start making Zelda puns, and probably cry about it.
