Designer Tidbits: Lynette Anderson

The Fat Quarter Shop is excited to welcome Lynette Anderson to the Jolly Jabber. Lynette’s latest fabric collection is Secret Garden for Lecien Fabrics.

Q: What was the first seed that grew into the Secret Garden collection?
A:Secret Garden comes from a special place in my mind where time passes slowly, where there is time to enjoy the colours and scents of the garden.

Trailing vines, little flowers, beehives and bugs; the tiny prints in this collection are ideal for use in a myriad of projects. They are great for pieced projects, and perfect for my favourite quilts that combine simple piecing with stitchery and appliqué. The hazy mauves, soft reds, taupes, winter greens and balmy blues are sure to inspire your creativity.

Q: If your collection had a soundtrack what would be on the list?
A:Sunshine on my Shoulders” sung by John Denver; I love the lyrics and when I sing along I can’t help but feel happy. :) Thankfully no one can hear me sing as I am very out of tune!

Q: What single print/SKU in the collection is your favorite?
A:I really do love the fabric with lots of tiny bumble bees, snails and ladybugs on it. I think it’s my favourite print.....well, today! It's very sweet and comes in three colours - hazy mauve, taupe and soft red.

Then my other favourite print is the one we have nicknamed 'fishnets', if you look closely you will see that the fishnets on this fabric have caught some pretty daisies.

Q:What is your favorite project you have made using this collection?
A:This sweet little quilt is a six part block of the month that I used a variety of fat eighths from Secret Garden to get a scrappy look. The stitchery background fabric is a gorgeous cotton yarn dye by Lecien which coordinates beautifully with my fabric. You get to stitch two of the 12 little garden themed stitcheries each month, making it a perfect little quilt for the embroidery beginner. When finished the quilt is approx. 38" square.

Q:If this collection had a scent to it, what would it be?
A:I love the smell of spring; everything has a clean freshness to it. If you wanted me to tell you a perfume smell I wouldn't have a clue! I don’t like perfume; it generally makes me sneeze so I avoid it whenever possible.

Q:Can you give us a sneak-peek of your next fabric collection?
A:Hmmmm...maybe..sssshh, I think it’s still a bit of a secret...so don’t tell anyone you have seen a peek but I do happen to know a certain online store that will be getting this...

Q:If you had a mascot, what animal would it be?
A:It would be a labrador. My best friend, Hugo, is a labrador and he sits with me all day and he's always happy to pose with my latest creation! Hugo is particularly good at posing if there is a biscuit on offer!

Q:Who is your favorite celebrity?
A:Hard question... It would have to be Hugo the Dog and Felix the Cat, people from all over the world who visit my blog adore them - they are miniature celebrities! I'm lucky because I get to see them every day.

Q:If we were making a movie about your life, who would you want to play you?
A:If she were still here I would say Audrey Hepburn, but as she is not ........... I am open to suggestions.

Q:Who is your favorite fabric designer not including yourself?
A:I admire Jinny Beyer both for her fabulous quilt and her beautiful fabric collections. I love that she pieces by hand. Her fabric collections were some of the first available when I first started quilting almost 30 years ago.
