Happy Friday everyone!  Whether you're cherishing your last weeks of warm weather or simply dying for some lower temperatures, these favorites of Kathy Watt, one of our wonderful customer service representatives, are sure to suite your mood:

"In Texas we are on Day 40+ of 100 degree weather, so with hope of bringing Fall's cool weather, I chose a stunning print from Bittersweet. Grandchildren recently entered the lives of some of my friends so I couldn't resist Meadow Friends. What a happy print! Lastly, the summery color of this Me & My Sister Favorites print is so beautiful--I chose it because I love almost anything blue! And a bonus! I chose The Three Bears' Sleeping Bag Downloadable PDF Pattern--it's too cute to pass up! Wouldn't this make an adorable Big Sibling gift for a favorite teddy bear? Feel those cool breezes coming?!"

Pattern Designer: Ruby Blue Quilting

Greetings! Some of you may know me and many of you probably don't so let me introduce myself. My name is Rebecca Silbaugh and I am the designer behind Ruby Blue Quilting Studio.

Back in the day, my Mom started taking some quilting classes, then so did Gramma. The three of us would get together for "Retail Therapy" trips to fabric stores. Being a very artsy person I was always intrigued by the colors and textures but wasn't totally in love with quilting - yet. My friends and I all began to "attempt" (and I mean attempt) quilting in High School, but life kinda got in the way. Before you knew it I was a working, newlywed, college student as well as a new homeowner. There just wasn't time for quilting.

In the meantime my Mom opened a Quilt Shop and I would help at the store from time to time. After awhile my curiosity was reignited. Little by little something magical happened and my graphic designs slowly morphed into quilt designs. So, I started sewing more, playing with fabric more and designing. Then in October of 2009 Ruby Blue Quilting Studio was born.

You'll find my designs to be a mix of everything, mainly scrap friendly (I'll admit - I LOVE me some scraps!!!). There's some patterns on the easier side and some a bit more challenging, some with optional embellishments and applique and much much more. My designs tend to be on the traditional side with a bit of flair. Going to school for Graphic Design, I learned early on that in order to grow you must first have a firm grasp and understanding of the basics and foundation work. I carry this into my patterns paying tribute to designs of the past but adding a modern touch.

My goal as a designer is to instill confidence in quilters everywhere. I believe bad instructions can be one of the worst road blocks for a quilter trying to grow their abilities. I promise to make clear and easily understandable instructions for all levels to allow beginners to advance, yet be interesting enough for experienced quilters.

I hope you enjoy my patterns. You can also find some of my designs over at the Moda Bake Shop and recently in American Patchwork & Quilting Magazine! Stop on over at my blog to see what I've been up to and give us a chance to chat! I cannot express how delighted I am to have this opportunity and how much I appreciate the quilters that have supported my business from the start. It still feels like a dream everyday to be able to do something I love so much and I love being able to share this journey with all of you!

-Rebecca

Designer Tidbits: Richard Neuman

The Fat Quarter Shop is excited to welcome Richard Neuman to the Jolly Jabber. Richard’s latest fabric collection is Choo Choo You from Clothworks Fabrics.

Q: What was the first seed that grew into the Choo Choo You collection?
A: I grew up in a small railroad town in the midwest through which passed 200 trains each day. I learned the alphabet seeing letters on the sides of train cars. From the smell of coal smoke to the sounds of train whistles fading into the distance on a summer's night, trains are ingrained in my heart and soul. One might say I have always been a "Choo Choo You"!

Q: What are 3 words you would choose to describe this collection?
A:
1. fun
2. detailed
3. colorful

Q: What single print/SKU in the collection is your favorite (can only pick one!)?
A: Creating this railroad layout was an opportunity to revisit many fond memories of my boyhood days when my brothers and I worked on and played with the train layout in our basement.

Q: What is your dream project using this collection?
A: As a adult what fun to decorate a train room with pillows, curtains and table skirting with prints from this collection. Revisit my childhood and snuggle in to bed on a cold winter night under a quilt of these train images.

Richard's Silly Secrets:

1. Work and life essentials aside, what is the activity you spend the most time doing?
Reading and traveling- my "bucket list" is long and varied.

2. Where did you grow up and where do you call home?
I grew up in Fostoria, Ohio. For the last 20 years I have lived on the farm settled by my family in 1840.

3. Your biggest pet peeve?
People's addiction to cell phones.

4. What color are you thinking about today?
Lush greens inspired by the wheat fields and part of the yard outside my studio window.

Plaids of all colors.

Kris' Silly Secrets:

1. What is your guilty pleasure food?
Warm sourdough bread with lots of real butter...actually, it doesn’t even have to be warm!

Junking! I love searching thrift shops for items that beg to be used again, or upcycled into something fabulous!

3 for Me: Cheryl Cohorn

Happy Friday!  We hope you are doing well and ready for the weekend! We're glad you stopped in to the Jolly Jabber today as we are very excited to welcome back Cheryl Cohorn:

"Long, hot summer days are getting me down, so this week I chose 3 fabrics from a fabulous new collection by Kris Lammers called Fresh Fallen Snow! I'm very fond of snowmen, so this first print makes me happy - each snowman is befriended by a sweet little feathered friend. The color palette in this collection is so striking, I wanted to show the entire group. But because this is 3 for Me, I finally decided on the snowflake print on the black background and the red scrollwork, both of which give quite a visual punch to the cool blues and greens. Ahhh, snow!"

Cheryl's 3:

1. Fresh Fallen Snow White Falling Snowmen SKU# 16004-W

2. Fresh Fallen Snow Red Scrollwork SKU# 16005-R

3. Fresh Fallen Snow Black Falling Snowflakes SKU# 16007-J

Q: What was the first seed that grew into the Flutter and Flowers collection?
A: A piece of artwork that I thought was so pretty and romantic looking without being too sweet. And it has lots of great elements: flowers, butterflies, and polka dots, plus a wonderful crackle texture. As for the name, we all brain stormed, tossing around various words associated with the motifs and came up with Flutter and Flowers, it seemed perfect!

Q: What are 3 words you would choose to describe this collection?
A:
1. romantic
2. pretty
3. delicate

Q: What single print/SKU in the collection is your favorite (can only pick one!)?
A: Probably the lead pattern in blue 8632-0122 because it has all the elements working together and was the original inspiration for the group.

Q: What is your dream project using this collection?
A: Little girls dresses. I have a great niece who just started walking and I would love to see her wearing a skirt or dress made with the group. I’d also like to make a small quilt for her because the full size quilt that Marcus Fabrics made for the May quilt show turned out so beautifully.

Avocados and chocolate - not together, of course ;) I don’t know which I love more, they are both so scrumptious!

When dog walkers do not pick up after their pets (pardon the pun).

Quilt Story Patterns

Heather and Megan are two sisters who write a fun blog called Quilt Story. They share their own projects, quilting, sewing, crafting and write some adorable patterns. They also take submissions to share your own quilt and the story behind it!  They post these several times a week so you get to see several fun perspectives on quilts.

Fat Quarter Shop carries Quilt Story patterns in paper and PDF. Here is a quilt they created using the new Sarah Jane "Children at Play" line.

Each block center is a fussy cut block of some of the darling characters in this line which highlights them really well.

Be sure to visit their blog and pattern page!

It's Sew Emma:The Adventures of Seuss!

Good morning everyone! We hope you're all having a great day and thanks for starting the week off right with the Jolly Jabber! We're very excited to debut our second It's Sew Emma Pattern, The Adventures of Seuss, designed by Debbie Taylor and exclusively featured at the Fat Quarter Shop! Please welcome Debbie to the Jolly Jabber:

The inspiration for The Adventure of Seuss Quilt Pattern came from a quilt block I submitted to a quilt magazine. Isn't the Hat applique cute?

I loved the block so much that I decided to design a quilt using this block and The Cat in the Hat panel. I started designing this quilt by drawing on graph paper.

I wanted the quilt to be throw size with The Cat in the Hat panel in the center of the quilt with my original blocks surrounding it. Mission accomplished!

I can see this quilt as a gift for a young person accompanied by a Dr. Seuss book or two!!! The Adventures of Seuss Pattern and The Adventures of Seuss Quilt Kit are both currently and exclusively for sale at the Fat Quarter Shop! This quilt is guaranteed to bring smiles to whomever receives it, or makes it for that matter!
Enjoy!

3 for Me: Debbie Taylor

Welcome back to the Jolly Jabber on this wonderful Friday morning! We are excited to say hello again to Debbie Taylor, one of the amazing women in our customer service department, and one of the designers for our very own pattern company, It's Sew Emma:

"It's my turn again! Superman has arrived  in full force and is a big hit with the guys! Anyone looking for a "guy" quilt, here is your fabric! For my second choice, you have to agree, the Urban Zoologie bird print by Ann Kelle is the sweetest. A pillow made from this fabric would be super cute. My third choice is my absolute favorite. The new Children at Play fabric by Sarah Jane for Michael Miller has arrived and I have fallen in love with this print. I am thinking of matching dresses for my little granddaughters in California *wink*. I am feeling so inspired by these fabrics and have multiple projects in mind!"
