Designer Tidbits: Me and My Sister Designs

The Fat Quarter Shop is excited to welcome Barb & Mary of Me and My Sister Designs to the Jolly Jabber. Me and My Sister Designs’ latest fabric collection is Twirl for Moda Fabrics.

Q: What was the first seed that grew into the Twirl collection?
A: We usually start our collections with the main print. It is usually a floral and becomes the inspiration for the rest of the prints. The whole group started with this print…

Then we add coordinates that complement the main floral like this…

Then Moda does their magic and the whole thing comes together!

Q: If your collection had a soundtrack what would be on the list?
A: You know I am not a huge music person, I never turn on the radio and don’t even have an iPod or anything like that with a music playlist. I never turn on the radio in my car and I know that Lady Gaga is a singer but could not tell you what she sings! I am a TV girl though! It’s on in the background all the time in my sewing room. Reality TV is the best and I watch it ALL between episodes of Law and Order.

But I could tell you what my 2 favorite commercials are at the moment …

1~ The Snickers commercial where the sharks are talking about how good Steve tastes cause he just ate a Snickers bar.

2 ~ The Microsoft commercial where the kid does a Power Point presentation for his parents to get a new dog … but the dad gets shot down when he does one to play golf on Sunday!

Q: What single print/SKU in the collection is your favorite?
A: Oh … that’s difficult! Its really hard to pick just one but it would have to be this … Mary picked it because it’s PINK!

Q: What is your favorite project you have made using this collection?
A: Would have to say the #3 layer cake quilt from our Simply Cakes pattern. So simple and easy to make!

Q: If this collection had a scent to it, what would it be?
A: Laundry twirling in the wind on the clothesline! If that is a scent?

Q: Can you give us a sneak-peek of your next fabric collection?
A: Our next fabric collection is called “Good Morning”. It will ship to the stores in August. I love how the prints with this new flower turned out!

Q: If you had a mascot, what animal would it be?
A: DOGS! Do you really want me to start talking about my dogs! That is one of my favorite subjects! My little dog Bella is a Jack Russell terrier and sneaks into lots of the pictures that end up on our blog.

Q: Who is your favorite celebrity?
A: Can this be an author? Both Mary and I love to read and we have a wide variety of authors that we love and share their books. But I have to admit that one of our favorites is Janet Evanovich. She writes a great series of books that have me laughing out loud whenever I read them!

Q: If we were making a movie about your life, who would you want to play you?
A: That’s’ easy! Sandra Bullock! Mary and I would both pick her. Could we be Sandra twins? I love her style, talent and humor. Not to mention … I would like to look like her in an evening gown!

Q: Who is your favorite fabric designer not including yourself?
A: My favorite designer is Ralph Lauren. I love his classic American style and simple clean lines. Years ago I borrowed a book from Polly Minick, the autobiography of his life. I read the whole thing and enjoyed every page. He almost failed several times and kept trying until his dream came to be. Did you know that he can’t sew a stitch?

I _LOVE_ you fabric lines!! Just yesterday I started the Layer 3 pattern. I ordered the kit from Fat Quarter Quilt Shop. Your patterns are sooooo easy, but have so much pizzazz. Lori in Tucson
