Designer Tidbits: Sweetwater

The Fat Quarter Shop is excited to welcome Susan from Sweetwater to the Jolly Jabber. Sweetwater’s latest fabric collection is Reunion for Moda Fabrics.

Q: What was the first seed that grew into the Reunion collection?
A: One day when we were travelling to Denver we passed by a sign that said Reunion. The sign caught our eye and the ideas started flowing for a new fabric line. We tried to capture different things that you may have at your family reunion by naming all of the different prints after people or things associated with a family such as Sally’s Skirts, Nora’s News, Grace’s Garden, and Johnny’s Jacks. We had a lot of fun naming the prints!

Q: If your collection had a soundtrack what would be on the list?
A: This is a tough one! The first song that came to mind was We Are Family by Sister Sledge – but it really doesn’t fit. And then I thought, how about Red Solo cup by Toby Keith? No, that really doesn't fit either so I think we are going to say Summertime by Kenny Chesney.

Q: What single print/SKU in the collection is your favorite?
A: 5471-13. We love words on prints and I especially like this particular newsprint. We are from a small town and whenever someone has a family reunion or a get-together you can find a write-up like this in our local paper.

Q: What is your favorite project you have made using this collection?
A: This one is easily the Zig Zag pattern! After we are done showing the quilts we get to split the quilts up between the three of us (my mom, my sister, and myself). I know this is the favorite one by far and the day we distribute the Reunion quilts amongst us might not be that much fun!!

Q: If this collection had a scent to it, what would it be?
A: This would have to be Philosophy’s Pure Grace. I love this fragrance! It is a clean and fresh scent which hopefully matches this collection.

Q: Can you give us a sneak-peek of your next fabric collection?
A: This is the first time we have mentioned our new line. We are so excited about it!!! It is a fun new kids inspired line called Lucy’s Crab Shack. Once we receive some yardage we will be showing more photos from this line. We are patiently waiting :-)

Q: If you had a mascot, what animal would it be?
A: The first animal that popped into my head was a pig. Now, I know all of you are saying a pig????? Because that is exactly what my mom said! But yes a pig! I knew pigs were smart but then I found this out to back up my own thinking:

Intelligence research was done with pigs in the 1990s. All species of pig are smarter than dogs, and capable of abstract representation. "They can hold an icon in their mind, and remember it at a later date", says Professor Stanley Curtis of Penn State University, who discovered that pigs dominate at video games with joy sticks.

They also lead complex social lives, have a good sense of direction, they learn from watching one another and they also outsmart each other. And don't forget the fact that they dream. I know a bunch of useless information but that way you won’t think I am crazy to pick a pig!

Q: Who is your favorite celebrity?
A: My sister has John Elway but I have the newer version – Tim Tebow. I have his picture as my wallpaper on my phone (my husband is real impressed!). He is a fan of his as well so no worries!

Q: If we were making a movie about your life, who would you want to play you?
A: Jennifer Aniston

Q: Who is your favorite fabric designer not including yourself?
A: Whoever designs for J.Crew!
