Notion of the Month: Growth Chart Pins

It's Notion of the Month time! This month we have selected Nancy Halvorsen’s Growth Chart Pins.

Daebbie Taylor, from Fat Quarter Shop, is here today to show us what the Growth Chart Pins are all about.

And don't forget the Notion of the Month is 20% OFF all month!

After seeing Just Another Button Company's Growth Chart Pins and Nancy Halvorsen’s Curiosities and Mischief collections, I knew I had to make the growth chart for my granddaughter, Sydney! This is one of the fastest and most fun projects I have ever worked on.

Growth Chart ingredients:

Book: Curiosities & Mischief by Art to Heart – directions on page 19

“Girl” wallhanging (as shown):
1) One Panel – SKU# 2870-24
2) 2/3 yard – SKU# 2874-60
3) 1/3 yard  –  SKU# 2873-60 (binding)
4) 1 1/3 yards backing fabric
5) Growth Chart Pins for Girls  –  #gcgirl.

“Boy” wallhanging:
1) One Panel – SKU# 2880-84
2) 2/3 yard – SKU# 2874-84
3) 1/8 yard – SKU# 2874-77
4) 1/3 yard – SKU# 2873-85 (binding)
5) 1 1/3 yards backing fabric
6) Growth Chart Pins for Boys – #gcboy

Following Nancy’s instructions in her Curiosities & Mischief book, trimming the panel was super easy; it even has metric measurements!

Next, I added the borders and then I used fusible web to attach Sydney's name!

Then, make the two tabs for hanging.

For the batting I used Warm and Natural Batting and did simple “stitch in the ditch” quilting.

I added the stripe binding which is already printed on the bias, so again, super easy!

The final touch, are the pins! So cute!!!!

Another option is to sew a label to the backing where the measurements can be written and dated with a quilting pen.

One last thing, you can even use the easy ordering information on page 26 for the “I’m This Big” hanger which comes in copper or silver.
