Hello quilters! We are so excited to kick off the Quilters Newsletter's Best Christmas Quilts Blog Tour! My kit, One Winter's Night, is featured in the 2012 issue of Best Christmas Quilts, and it is lovely!
I’m not normally a ring-in-the-holidays, put-on-your-best-Christmas-sweater type of gal, but One Winter’s Night makes me long for a dark night and a nice warm fireplace with the sound of Christmas carolers drifting in and out.
I initially wanted to create a traditional design incorporating some timeless and classic quilt blocks. After a few tweaks, I wound up adding a few geometric lines in varying sizes for interest, and paired with Sentiments by 3 Sisters, I found it reminded me very much of a frosted window pane. This made coloring the quilt a cinch, alternating the icy blue with peeks of lively florals, much like tracing your fingers through condensation on a cold evening. That image brought back so many memories of winter nights as a child, traveling to my grandparents’ house for Christmas dinner or waiting for friends to arrive at ours, always in anticipation!
Order a copy of Best Christmas Quilts from our shop! The magazine includes patterns for every featured quilt!
Leave a comment on this blog post before 11:59 p.m. MDT tonight (8/20/2012) for a chance to win the Sentiments Fat Eighth Bundle, Jelly Roll and a copy of Best Christmas Quilts. We will draw one name at random. One comment per person, please. The giveaway is now closed.

With traditional red/green Christmas decor in my living room, and blues in my "Blue Willow" dining room, this quilt would tie the rooms together.

A good quilt to cuddle under on a snowy night with a cup of hot chocolate
I LOVE it!! It is everything I would like in a Christmas quilt--traditional without being stuffy. And before I even read the blog, I thought the same thing: icy cold frosty blue was the perfect color to accent the reds & greens. And I've been admiring Sentiments by 3 sisters for some time now. Thanks!
What a great giveaway!! And tomorrow is my 60th birthday so I am feeling lucky - fingers crossed!!
