Hello quilters! We are so excited to kick off the Quilters Newsletter's Best Christmas Quilts Blog Tour! My kit, One Winter's Night, is featured in the 2012 issue of Best Christmas Quilts, and it is lovely!
I initially wanted to create a traditional design incorporating some timeless and classic quilt blocks. After a few tweaks, I wound up adding a few geometric lines in varying sizes for interest, and paired with Sentiments by 3 Sisters, I found it reminded me very much of a frosted window pane. This made coloring the quilt a cinch, alternating the icy blue with peeks of lively florals, much like tracing your fingers through condensation on a cold evening. That image brought back so many memories of winter nights as a child, traveling to my grandparents’ house for Christmas dinner or waiting for friends to arrive at ours, always in anticipation!

I love this quilt! It is not the old, tired red and green with poinsettias and candy canes. The frosty blue is the special touch.

This would be a wonderful way to start my Christmas sewing. My grandnieces (who can talk) plan for Christmas all year long - "I want that for Christmas" is one refrain from them. Another is playing Christmas music - all year long. This is the cassette they always pick to play. It may be August, but we are in a one horse open sleigh, hey! Thanks for the chance. I LOVE it!! It is everything I would like in a Christmas quilt--traditional without being stuffy. And before I even read the blog, I thought the same thing: icy cold frosty blue was the perfect color to accent the reds & greens. And I've been admiring Sentiments by 3 sisters for some time now. Christmas is my favorite time of year but I have never really liked to make theme quilts like snowmen, Santa, etc cause I change decor often. This quilt is perfect for me cause it is definitely Christmas and looks wonderful but is not commited to a particular theme. Definitely on my to do list. Thanks for a beautiful Christmas quilt.
