Designer Tidbits: Lori Holt

Saturdays are officially Lori Holt day here at the Fat Quarter Shop, at least in September! This September we have been celebrating Lori on Saturdays, first with her Row Along and now with her fantastic new collection, Polka Dot Stitches.  This collection is full of girlish charm.  These sweet colors and playful prints will brighten up any girly quilt.  As if rowing and designing weren't enough, Lori is coming out with a new line of rulers, and we can't wait to get our hands on them.

Q: To what or whom would you dedicate this collection, or what inspired this collection?
A: I grew up in a quilting family and my mom taught me to sew when I was very young.  My grandma taught me to embroider when I was 6, my other grandma taught me to crochet at about the same time and I have loved handwork ever since.  So, this line was inspired by stitches.  Quilting stitches, embroidery stitches or crochet stitches.  And of course, circles and polka dots!  The colors and prints were inspired by all of the fabrics that my mom used to let me pick out for the dresses she would sew for me when I was a young girl.  I always chose polka dots, rose or daisy prints and gingham.

These circles were cut using Lori's new ruler!
Q: What is your favorite project using this collection?
A: I'm working on projects now to be released as new patterns.  Some of my favorites so far are things for the sewing room.

Q: What would be your collection’s theme song?
A: Probably 'Do-Re-Mi' from The Sound of Music.  Especially the line "sew, a needle pulling thread."

Q: If you could live in a movie, what movie would it be?
A: One of Doris Day's movies would be fun.  So vintage and campy, the songs were fun and the clothes were adorable!

Q: What do you get nostalgic over?
A: Music makes me nostalgic.  Whenever I hear a song from my childhood I am transported back in time.

Q: What is your favorite TV show of all time?
A: Gilmore Girls, hands down.

Q: If you could be a modern day fictional character, who would you be?
A: Anne with an "E".

Q: What’s the strangest compliment you’ve ever received?
A: That my house looks like a "dollhouse" or that my garden doesn't look "real.”  I don't know if those are compliments or not!
