To what or whom would you dedicate this collection, or what inspired this collection?
A:
This collection is inspired by and dedicated to women who are using a warm cup of tea to reach out to kindred hearts in friendship. Whether a cup of tea is offered at the kitchen table or at a delightful tea party, tea is the warmest, most versatile tool for hospitality. It has been my mission to encourage women to connect with tea through my art, my books and my website, Sandy’s Tea Society. My latest book, You Can Do Tea, takes all the intimidation out of tea and equips anyone to open their heart and home with hospitality. This fabric collection is a celebration of connecting in friendship.

What is your favorite project using this collection?
A:
The designs in this collection are perfect for “dressing” the table, whether you use it for a tablecloth and napkins, place mats, chair covers or dressing yourself in the perfect hostess apron.

What would be your collection’s theme song?
A:
“Friendship!”

If you could live in a movie, what movie would it be?
A: Walt Disney's So Dear to My Heart. To live in this movie would be to live in a time where gentle hearts were attuned to the Golden Rule, pleasures were simple, character was valued, handwork brought joy and children were raised to become adults.

What do you get nostalgic over?
A:
Heirlooms made by hand, whether it’s my wedding dress my mother and I made together or my doll cradle that my father built for me for Christmas.

What is your favorite TV show of all time?
A:
I Love Lucy—hands down.
Q:
If you could be a modern day fictional character, who would you be?
A:
I don’t read a lot of fiction, but I have been smitten by the Mitford books by Jan Karon. I’ve read them all and I’d like to be Cynthia—she’s an artist and an author, too.
Q:
What’s the strangest compliment you’ve ever received?
A:
When I had little ones and was trying to be taken seriously as an artist, I took great pains to try to be professional and to present my art professionally. So, although it may sound strange, it made my day when a potential customer at an outdoor art show told me that I “looked like my paintings”—which were still lifes!
