Designer Tidbits: Sweetwater

When you're young, Mama says to do a lot of things.  Most of them inspire an eye roll or two.  But when Mama says sew, you better grab some of this adorable fabric and get working! Mama Said Sew, the newest collection by Sweetwater, is black, white, red and charming.  Keep reading for some Q & A with Sweetwater, and listen to your mother!

Q1: To what or whom would you dedicate this collection, or what inspired this collection?
A: Mama Said Sew was inspired by one of the cutest fabric shops we have ever seen- Mama Said Sew in Fort Collins, Colorado. I thought the name was just as cute as the shop! After that first visit, we thought the name would be perfect for our next fabric collection. We thought about it for a while and finally got the courage to ask the owner of the shop if we could borrow the name. She was so nice and thrilled to let us use it!

Q2: What is your favorite project using this collection?
A: My favorite project using this collection is our Mama's China pattern. You can make one large quilt or 3 smaller quilts (one red, one grey and one black) out of 1 jelly roll. I also love our Mama Said Sew canvas art print that matches the collection.

Q3: What would be your collection’s theme song?
A: Instead of "I'm Sexy and I Know It", how about "I'm Sewing and I Know It"!

Q4: If you could live in a movie, what movie would it be?
A: The Blind Side. After seeing that movie, I wanted to do something as important and giving as Sandra Bullock's character. And I love football. It would be great.

Q5: What do you get nostalgic over?
A: The Olympics.  That is the first thing that came to mind because they just ended. But I really do love the Olympics and they bring back so many memories. Some of my favorites include watching Mary Lou Retton in 1984 in my parent's basement wishing I could be her, watching the American hockey team win gold in 1980 when I was really little and the whole country was going crazy and just four years ago my husband and I went nuts in our living room watching Michael Phelps. We were screaming so loud we woke up and scared our newborn!

Q6: What is your favorite TV show of all time?
A: That's easy. Dallas. I am so excited it is back - I still love it! I remember when we were little my sister and I used to play "Dallas". We both always wanted to be Pam. She was the pretty, nice one married to Bobby. I also remember roller skating to the Dallas theme song on my parent’s tiny concrete patio. We thought we were so cool!

Coming in a close second is The Bachelor. Oh how I love ridiculous reality TV!

Q7: If you could be a modern day fictional character, who would you be?
A: The Road Runner. I spend so much time in my car I wish I could get everywhere super fast.

Q8: What’s the strangest compliment you’ve ever received?
A: I can't think of anything, but my niece, who is at work today, had an immediate response. She said people tell her she has her grandpa's (my dad's) teeth. She has no idea what to say to that. But her teeth do sort of look like my dad's (which isn't a bad thing, they are just really small teeth). Just don't tell her I said that.
