2013 Hoffman Challenge

Each year, Hoffman Fabrics issues a fabric challenge for quilters to create quilts and other crafts using specific fabrics. The Hoffman Challenge is a chance to show off your skills using gorgeous fabric! This year's fabric has been announced and we want to tell you a bit more about the contest, to get your creative juices flowing!

Have you heard? The 2013 Hoffman Challenge fabric is K7126 136G-Peacock Gold from the Hoffman Fabrics’ new collection, Sayomi. This single fabric featuring a 24-inch repeat pattern is all the fabric you need to enter Hoffman Fabrics’ 26th annual quilting and sewing contest. But of course, you’re more than welcome to incorporate suggested coordinates. There are 11 to consider in Sayomi’s peacock gold colorway. In addition, Sulky Thread, the official co-sponsor of the Hoffman Challenge, has a list of suggested coordinated threads that beautifully complement the fabrics.

A wide variety of contest categories exist to test your creativity, from pieced quilts, appliqué quilts, garments, dolls and accessories, to special awards for The Best Use of Sulky Thread and The Best Incorporation of the Challenge Fabric. Deadline for entries to be received by Challenge curator Julie Breidt is July 19, 2013. For all the contest details, a downloadable entry form, and a look at award-winning entries in past Challenges, please visit the official site here. You’ll find the list of coordinating Sulky Thread there, too.

Head to Fat Quarter Shop to grab the Hoffman Challenge fabric and the Peacock Sayomi Fat Quarter Bundle, which includes the challenge fabric and the coordinates.

Once you have your fabric, the only question left is: What’s in you to create?
