Designer Tidbits: Country Rose

This pattern captures my shabby chic heart! Country Rose is so easy and soooo pretty. I imagine this quilt spread over a vintage iron bed in a little cottage tucked away in the countryside… but I admire it equally in my room!

As you may know, stars are my vice, and the faded colors of Athill Range make these stars soft and elegant. I love the unique sashing of this quilt, a little surprise in an otherwise traditional pattern!

There is nothing about this quilt that I don’t absolutely love! So simple but so perfect and sweet. This one is a keeper for me and my sweet pea Emma!

Store owners, you can find Country Rose as ISE-124 at United Notions and Checkers!

Designer Select: Jenn Ski

The Fat Quarter Shop and Jenn Ski have teamed up to present you with a Fat Quarter Shop Exclusive! Jenn has specially selected 12 prints from her Ten Little Things collection along with 3 coordinating Bella Solids for this special bundle you will only find at the Fat Quarter Shop.

Q: What inspired you to pick the colors and designs in your Ten Little Things collection?
A: First I designed the large 1-through-10 panel, and then I pulled elements from that and built on them to come up with the other patterns and designs. I selected the prints for the Designer Select bundle because you see the variety that came from my panel. I love colors and patterns from the 50's and 60's, and you can see that as an influence throughout my work.

Q: What are 3 words you would choose to describe this collection, not including any of the fabric designs!
A:
1. Fun
2. Nature
3. Retro

*2 Truths and a Lie*
1. I do most of my work after midnight.
2. I don't own a TV.
3. My favorite vegetable is cauliflower.

One of the 3 statements is false. Comment on this post telling me which statement you think is false. Answer correctly and you have a chance to win a Jenn Ski's Designer Select Fat Quarter Bundle!

You have exactly one week from the post date.
Good Luck!

Designer Tidbits: Thomas Knauer

The Fat Quarter Shop is excited to welcome Thomas Knauer to the Jolly Jabber. Thomas’ latest fabric collection is Flock for Andover Fabrics.

Q: What was the first seed that grew into the Flock collection?
A: This collection started with the Brady Bunch, the clothes, the architecture of the Brady’s house, the whole nine yards. The oranges and yellows actually came from this picture of the Brady’s singing:

This collection is really about my love affair with 1973.

Q: If your collection had a soundtrack what would be on the list?
A:
a. Time to Change by The Brady Bunch
b. You are the Sunshine of My Life by Stevie Wonder
c. Song Sung Blue by Neil Diamond
d. Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves by Cher

Q: What single print/SKU in the collection is your favorite?
A: Okay. That is evil. I'll go with 5652-E, the feature print in orange. It just makes me really, really happy. It is ready to go as a pillow and I need to make a skirt out of it.

Though, I gotta say I truly love working with the pink dots (picture me sticking my tongue out at your rules!!!).

Q: What is your favorite project you have made using this collection?
A: This baby quilt I am working on right now...

Q: If this collection had a scent to it, what would it be?
A: A heavy blend of Corinthian Leather and daisies (insert Ricardo Montalban there saying Corinthian Leather).

Q: Can you give us a sneak-peek of your next fabric collection?
A: I can give you more than a sneak peek; you can see the whole thing… Savanna Bop is expected to hit the world in May/June!!! Fat Quarter Shop also has it on their Coming Soon page.

Q: If you had a mascot, what animal would it be?
A: Jasper Johns in a Lemur costume. Don't know why, it just would be...

Q: Who is your favorite celebrity?
A: Anjelica Huston. She is so far beyond awesome!!!

Q: If we were making a movie about your life, who would you want to play you?
A: I want both David Byrne (circa 1977) and Jonathan Richman (also circa 1977) to play me, and to have it randomly change from scene to scene who is playing me. I'd even want them to play the child me (especially David Byrne).

Q: Who is your favorite fabric designer not including yourself?
A: I'm going to nimbly sidestep that question by saying Jamie Reid; he was behind so much of the amazing designs associated with the 70’s British punk scene. Oh, and whoever the costume designer was for The Brady Bunch.

Blogger Choice: Vanessa Christenson

The Fat Quarter Shop and Vanessa Christenson of V & Co. have teamed up to present you with a Fat Quarter Shop Exclusive!  Vanessa has specially selected 12 of her favorite prints along with 3 coordinating solids from our store for this special bundle found only at the Fat Quarter Shop.

Q: What will you be making with your Blogger’s Choice Fat Quarter Bundle?
A: Honestly, I'll probably just stare at it for a while, and then I will probably think of a project that will include some appliqué kind of thing. I'm kind of into appliqué at the moment, it's kind of an extension of "texture" in my book, and you already know how I feel about texture. ;)

Q: What quilt project are you currently working on?
A:  :) An appliqué one. Oh, and one that uses a lot of the same color but with different shades of that color. I think it's looking kind of cool, you'll see it soon. ;)

Hot Seat:
1. jelly roll or layer cake
2. planned or scrappy
3. prints or solids

Leave a comment on this post choosing one of each pair you think Vanessa would have selected. Answer correctly and you will have a chance to win one of her Blogger’s Choice Fat Quarter Bundles.
You have exactly one week from this post 'til the contest closes.

Good Luck!

Designer Tidbits: Joanna Figueroa

The Fat Quarter Shop is excited to welcome the darling Joanna Figueroa of Fig Tree Quilts to the Jolly Jabber. Joanna’s latest fabric collection is California Girl from Moda Fabrics.

Q: What was the first seed that grew into the California Girl collection?
A: California Girl is my version of a summer afternoon at the beach. It makes me think of old-fashioned bathing suits, striped umbrellas, kids playing in the sand, floppy sunhats and summer dresses in the breeze. It’s one of those images that is firmly planted in my head... maybe it’s from a movie. Pretty sure it’s not from my life but I would have loved to live in that 50’s beach era, wouldn’t you?!

Q: If your collection had a soundtrack what would be on the list?
A: Definitely any of the Beach Boys songs! Surfer Girl, Good Vibrations or California Girls comes to mind. As someone who grew up in Southern California, I love all of those songs and they take me back to Saturdays at the beach and the pier!

Q: What single print/SKU in the collection is your favorite?
A: I have a running joke with myself that my personal favorite SKU will never be one of the most popular for everybody else. It usually pans out to be true but not always. My favorite print in this group is the little grey blueberry.

Q: What is your favorite project you have made using this collection?
A: Favorite project suggestion: This line has been so much fun to work with from back when we debuted at Market last Fall, and again this Spring as we have been getting ready for its release. I’m having a hard time picking a favorite project.

The mice [3 Blind Mice] were so much fun to make and are really popular for us right now! They’re a great project to do with your kids or grandkids but also just a great project to make for your sewing room. Better yet... Make 3 and go with our whole “3 Blind Mice” thing!

In terms of quilts, my favorite by far this time around is the Star Blooms pattern in either size! Something about those giant oversized simple blocks just speaks to me right now! Thinking of doing it in a 2-color combination if we have time in the upcoming months!

Q: If this collection had a scent to it, what would it be?
A: That tropical, coconut scented suntan oil. You know the one that you smell & it just makes you think of summer?

Q: Can you give us a sneak-peek of your next fabric collection?
A: So far the only sneak peak is here. But I promise I’ll be showing more in the coming months

Q: If you had a mascot, what animal would it be?
A: It wouldn't be an animal I don’t think. It would have to be a fig. Maybe a dancing fig! In fact, I think I already have that mascot :-). His name is Eric and he is my husband! I sure hope he doesn’t read this anytime soon. Actually he doesn’t do much dancing at all so I guess he would make a boring mascot. So scratch that, it would have to be one of my sons! The middle one has the personality for it, so I guess we will give him the job if the situation were ever to arise!

Q: Who is your favorite celebrity?
A: I am a little bit infatuated with Adele right now. I listen to her 21 album nonstop in the studio and we belt out her songs in the car on the way to wherever we are going. All three kids know most of the lyrics by heart and my youngest daughter lives and breathes her music at the moment. Let’s just say that it is a lot of Adele all the time around here right now!
