Designer Tidbits: Deb Strain

Seascapes by Deb Strain for Moda Fabrics is a breath of salty air. These calm, cool prints have us daydreaming of life by the ocean. Are you enchanted by Seascapes? Lucky for you, Deb is on the Jolly Jabber to tell us a bit about the collection! Be sure to watch our interview from Fall Quilt Market for a peek inside her booth and a look at her original artwork!
Q: What inspired this collection?
A: Seascapes is inspired by our lives by the sea, that exists only in my imagination! We live in rural Ohio and although it is beautiful, there is something calming and rejuvenating about being in a place with water. The blues and greens of the water and the wonderful sounds of the tide are so relaxing! We have always wanted to live by the sea (or a river or lake), so "Seascapes" is inspired by that life by the water that my family dreams of.

Q: What is your favorite project using this collection?
A: Barb of Coach House Designs, has created 3 beautiful quilts using "Seascapes" and I love all three! By the Sea, Marina and Waves are such gorgeous patterns.  She does a wonderful job and has created wonderful quilts that would definitely be in our "dream house by the sea."
Q: What would be your collection's theme song?
A: Probably, "Sitting by the Dock of the Bay," by Otis Redding. It reminds me of a beautiful day by the water, with nothing to do but enjoy the sound of the waves, the sun and maybe a good book.

Q: If you could live in a movie, what movie would it be?
A: If I could live in a movie, it would have to be "Eat, Pray, Love" but I would want to take my family with me. I love to travel and want to see all of the beautiful places in the movie. I love food and that was a BIG part of the film. If my family were with me, we could share all of the adventures and have those memories forever!
Q: What do you get nostalgic over?
A: The holidays make me nostalgic in a heartwarming way. I remember past holidays, spent with family, eating huge meals and then laughing and sharing as we washed the mountain of dishes after. I cherish loved ones who have past and new additions to the family during these times. The holidays remind me of all the happy moments that I have had and to treasure the memories of them.

Q: What is your favorite TV show of all time?
A: It has to be "Modern Family"! I laugh out loud during the whole thing and love the spirit of the family. They love and support each other always.
