Pattern of the Month May 2013: Spools

It's time again for a new Pattern of the Month! Debbie Taylor is here today to tell you a little bit about our May 2013 Pattern of the Month, Spools by Thimble Blossoms! And don't forget, the Pattern of the Month is 20% off all month!

I have a collection of “vintage” spools of thread in my sewing room, all on wooden spools, displayed in a large glass container. When I first saw the Spools Quilt Pattern, I knew that I had to make it for my sewing room.

My idea is to use strips of my most favorite fabric in the spools. I’m imagining an overstuffed chair, pretty floor lamp with soft light, small side table, me in the chair, this quilt over me, planning my next quilt! I’m so there!

We love the Marmalade version of this quilt, but it will look great in almost anything. Last year, Thelma of Cupcakes 'n Daisies hosted a Parade of Spools and the quilts are simply gorgeous. What collection will you use to make your own Spools?

I think it would be fun to do in Boho by Urban Chiks. Maybe with something other than a white background.

You snagged my first choice of Marmalade so Avalon by Fig Tree is my second choice. Really, this pattern is so versatile that most any fabric would make a cute spools quilt.

Vintage Modern would be my first pick for the Spools pattern.

I agree with the post above that Marmalade is the perfect fabric, but I also have a staff of Sweetwater's Sunkissed that would be great.

Mill Book Series Circa 1835 would be beautiful with the Spools pattern. All the lavender, green, and rose colors would be sweet and still have enough contrast for each spool to stand out. :)

I would love to do this in Pam Kitty love - no surprise there! Maybe I will have enough scraps left from Back to School - Gotta go read the pattern now!

I would use Petal by Tanya Whelan. I think it would be beautiful in this pattern. I may just have to order it.

Oh for fun - quilters love their favorite sweets while stitching away - The Sweet Scoop by Dan Morris for RJR Fabrics

I know this will certainly knock me out of the running, but I had to chuckle when I saw this post. Today I just finished my little spools quilt - in Marmalade, of course!

Marmalade would be my first choice, but I wonder what it would look like in some of my favorite Reproduction Civil War fabrics.

I Love spools quilts! I would use Blushing fabric line because I am so in love with it!

I'm currently working on one in "Indigo Crossings." I love the blues for the "thread" but the tans are great for the spools.
