Book of the Month July 2013: Angles with Ease

It's time again for a new Book of the Month! Heather Mulder Peterson of Anka's Treasures is here today to tell you a little bit about our July Book of the Month, Angles with Ease! And don't forget, the Book of the Month is 20% off all month!

Our newest book, Angles with Ease, is full of fun techniques to simplify making kaleidoscope quilts. This book is everything that I try to do with my quilt designs - a merging of traditional elements with modern techniques. These modern techniques make complicated designs so much easier than you would think, and with no templates or paper piecing!

The inspiration for this book came from my first traditional kaleidoscope quilt. I began playing with a kaleidoscope shape and soon discovered that there were so many possibilities for this simple triangle! That discovery led to the development of my Triangler ruler, which was used to make all of the quilts in this book.

The ruler can be used to cut many different shapes like diamonds, trees, hexagons, tumblers, hourglass blocks and triangles. In addition to all of those blocks, you can also use the ruler to turn strip units into paddlewheels, pinwheels, octagons, and stars. These quilts look quite complicated at first glance. But with my ruler and the techniques in this book, they are simply and quickly made from strip units. Strip units are one of the first things you learn in quilting - meaning that practically anyone can make these quilts!

I've included whatever I can to make things easier - like lots of helpful diagrams, pressing instructions so everything nests, and cheater centers to cover any mismatched block centers. Multiple size options are included with many of the designs and the fabric requirements are for pre-cuts like fat quarters, fat eighths, and layer cakes.
