I’m so happy to be back on the Jolly Jabber talking about Mastering Miniatures. One of the biggest challenges for today’s busy women is simply finding time to sew, quilt, or do something for yourself. Sometimes it’s hard to think about making an entire quilt. But if you tackle a quilt working an hour or so a week, suddenly a project is attainable. That’s the thought behind Mastering Miniatures.
I’ve always been fascinated with small blocks and Judie Rothermel's miniature quilts, but all those little pieces can be intimidating. So, with this quilt, I focused on 6” blocks with easy pieces. Each block incorporates simple rotary cutting and quick piecing techniques. By combining these blocks with a simple, alternate framed square block, the quilt finishes at 70” square. The 6” block size is a little smaller than usual but the individual pieces are still easy to handle. The result is a masterpiece quilt that is still easily accomplished by using a rotary cutter and machine piecing.
The program will run from January to December 2014. For the first ten months, you will receive five 6" blocks that are easily accomplished. The last two months you will receive fabrics for your setting, borders and binding. For an even closer look at Mastering Miniatures, watch this Fat Quarter Shop YouTube video and sign up today!
We hope to have you sewing the Mastering Miniatures Block of the Month along with us. Let us know in the comments below, do you love this quilt as much as we do?
