Book of the Month December 2013: Quilts Made with Love + Giveaway

It's time again for a new Book of the Month! Rachel Griffith of PS I Quilt is here today to tell you a little bit about our December Book of the Month, Quilts Made with Love. We have a special video from Quilt Market, a bunch of photos, and a big giveaway, so sit right down and let's get started! And don't forget, the Book of the Month is 20% off all month!

To start this off, we wanted to bring you right back to Quilt Market, where Quilts Made with Love made it's debut. Watch this video of Rachel's Schoolhouse presentation and get a closer look at the quilts in the book before we dive in.

I’m so very excited to talk to y’all about my first book, Quilts Made with Love.
We’ve all experienced life events.
These events, good or bad, make up our lives.
Think about all the events that have happened in or around your life within the last year.
Your friend expecting her first baby, your cousin getting married, your neighbor passing away, or your grandson receiving orders for deployment.
I’m willing to bet, you can personally relate to one, if not more, of these occasions.

Sweet Cheeks
My inspiration for Quilts Made with Love came from the all-occasion greeting card boxes that my grandmothers like to have on hand. Your grandmother had boxes of those things, right?
Thought so. ;)

It Takes Two
Turnaround
As a quilter, I wanted to be able to open a book and pick the appropriate quilt for whatever situation I was faced with—just as my grandmothers would choose a card from the assortment.
The occasions featured in Quilts Made with Love cover everything from birth to loss. (The non-holiday events.)
Need a quilt for a retirement gift? It’s there.
Need a quilt for a sick parent? It’s there, too.
And there are many more.

Embrace
The quilts in my book are accessible to quilters of all ages, and will appeal to both the modern and traditional quilter. I pride myself on being a nowadays quilter. (Someone that mixes traditional and modern.)

Around the Block
So, whether this is your first quilt book or your 100th, I hope it will become instantly usable. I can’t wait for y’all to hold it your hands and make quilts that celebrate and provide comfort to your friends and your family.

To celebrate the December 2013 Book of the Month, we are giving away 5 copies of Quilts Made with Love and an Around the Block Quilt Kit here on the Jolly Jabber! Just comment below letting us know what non-holiday occasion you often make quilts for. Six winners will be chosen Monday 12/9/13! Good luck!

UPDATE! Tanyia, Leslie at the Sugarhouse, Sheila, Michele, Nancy, and Marija are our lucky winners! Thank you all for playing!

I love making baby quilts. Nothing like giving ( or receiving) a new quilt for a new baby.

Lisa Marie said...

I often make quilts for babies or weddings, but really I don't need much of an excuse and sometimes make and give quilts for no reason. Not long ago I made and gave a "no reason" lap quilt to a dear lady who taught my son at preschool nearly 20 years ago. She was absolutely thrilled that I would make a quilt for her and has thanked me profusely every time I've seen her since. And though it apparently made her very happy, it made me even HAPPIER!

My favorite reason to make a quilt is a new baby!

MzL said...

Who needs an excuse. Since starting quilting I make them "just because. Finished a"Big Brother" quilt last night and the new "Baby Brother" was born today. Snuggle quilts for all the neices and nephews - made with lots of love.... then there are the receiving blanks as they are so much nicer than those that are mass produced. I have several quilts made with love by my own grandmother and although she is no longer here, they bring back memories. Some I can look at and recall the outfit she cut the material from.

Birthdays and baby quilts and just because. Once I get my "just because" quilts all quilted I will give them to a group of ladies who take them to hospitals, etc.
