Designer Tidbits: Stephanie Ryan

Let soft, romantic roses sweep you off your feet. Modern Roses by Stephanie Ryan for Moda Fabrics is a rarity. Beautiful, soft colors, striking designs, and whimsical motifs, tied together with a modern twist. Stephanie is here to give you a closer look at Modern Roses, so start daydreaming and get inspired by these fabrics!
Q: Tell us a little about the Modern Roses collection. What were you inspired by?
A: Modern Roses started with one simple painted flower. That flower set the tone for the rest of the collection. It is modern but, also has a softness to it. The colors are muted and pretty with a neutral palette woven throughout. This collection is all about the simple pleasures in life.

Q: What is your design process when beginning a new collection?
A: Honestly, I just start painting and let the brush tell the story. It begins with flowers and then I start building designs around them.

Q: What design trends are you currently exploring?
A: I try not to follow trends too much. I like to know what colors are popular, but try to paint and create intuitively. I find that when I follow trends too much it tightens up my work instead of letting my creativity flow.

Q: What projects do you hope to see made using Modern Roses?
A: I see Modern Roses being used for women's apparel and handbags, pillows and home decor items as well as pretty quilts.
Q: What projects have you made using Modern Roses?
A: So far, we have created some apparel pieces and handbags.

Q: How do you describe your style?
A: I would describe my style as fresh and pretty with inspiring words weaved throughout. I went in a bit of a different direction with Modern Roses. I would describe this collection as Modern with a touch of whimsy.

This is a beautiful blend of modern and traditional. I see pillow cases, baby quilts, and cute summer skirts with bags. Its nice to see these fabrics to get us ready for spring. I plan to buy some yardage!
