Hey everyone! Today, we're swooning over Angela Walter's newest collection for Art Gallery Fabrics,
Athena. Named after the mythical goddess of the arts and classic Greek architecture,
Athena will transport you to the warm Mediterranean.
Q: Tell us a little about the Athena collection. What were you inspired by?
A: My last collection,
Drift, was inspired by a place,
tropical St. John. With
Athena, I was inspired by the cool blues of the Mediterranean and beautiful Greece. I tried to combine that with my favorite
machine quilting designs. I couldn't be more proud of it!
Q: What is your design process when beginning a new collection?
A: When designing a collection, I start by flipping through
my sketchbook. It's a book that I have on me all the time (you never know when
inspiration will strike). I start pulling the designs together from there. I
usually save the color for the last. Since this is only my 4th collection, I am
still trying to find my ideal process.
Q: What is your favorite part about being a designer?
A: It's hard to pick just one! I love when the collection is
finished, When I have sent it off and all I can do is cross my fingers and hope
for a good response. I also love, love, love seeing what people make with it.
The creativity of the people in this industry is amazing!
Q: What projects do you hope to see made with Athena?
A: I am a quilter through and through, so the thought of
making clothing is so daunting to me. I hope to see people make some fun
skirts, dresses and bags with the collection. That way, I can live vicariously
through their projects!!
