Designer Tidbits: Modern Neutrals by Amy Ellis

Hello everyone! We have a very special guest today on the Jolly Jabber. Amy Ellis of Amy's Creative Side is showing off her first fabric collection, Modern Neutrals, for Moda Fabrics. Read on to learn more!

Q: Tell us a little about the Modern Neutrals collection. What were you inspired by?
A: Modern Neutrals is the result of my book, which is also called Modern Neutrals. I found while writing the book that there are many neutrals within a lot of fabric collections. Often they have similar undertones to the main fabrics in the collection and don't always work well with other neutrals from other collections. I was later designing fabric, and eliminated most of the color before I was truly happy with the group. In all of this, I think (and hope) that I've found my niche within the fabric industry - only time will tell!

Q: What is the best part about being a fabric designer?
A: I love the entire process, but putting the final stitches into a binding will always be the best part of what I do.

Q:
What design trends are you currently exploring?

A: Color, simplicity, and how subtle changes in value can make a big impact in a collection or quilt design.

Q: What projects do you hope to see made with Modern Neutrals?
A: Anything and everything! Quilts, bags, pillows! I can't wait to see what everyone is creating!

Q: What's next for Amy Ellis?
A: I have a new book coming in December - Think Big. Think Big includes ten 18" blocks and everything you need to make any size quilt. I hope you will look out for that one! And I'm working on strike offs for the next fabric collection too!
