FQS Staff Takes on a BOM!

Happy Friday! This year, we thought it would be a brilliant idea to challenge the FQS staff to take on different block of the months (BOM) and Quilt Alongs (QAL)! This might be the first time you've gotten to meet some of these FQS staff members, so on behalf of everyone, it's nice to meet you! We hope you'll come and join in on the fun, so let's start!

Being the busy bee that she is, Kimberly still takes time to sew just for pleasure, and she's definitely the most prolific of us all. (The moral of this story is, if she can do all of theses, you can do one too!). This year, she's going to take on a bevy of QALs: 2015 Aurifil Designer Mystery Block of the Month Threads of Time BOM and the APQ Go Four It QAL (more info coming soon). Not to mention, she's also making minis out of the 2015 Snapshots Quilt Along (going on now) and recently finished the 2015 Designer Mystery Block of the Month (starting in June) quilt as well.

If you haven't heard the buzz about Snapshots, visit our page here. She's sewing up a few of her favorite blocks into a mini quilt!

We just love Gudrun's 2015 Aurifil Designer of the Month mini quilt! Kimberly chose to create hers from some Pam Kitty Morning fabrics from her stash! Check back in March when Kimberly's mini quilt is featured!

Next up is the Threads of Time Block of the Month by Julie Hendricksen (we've got a few spots left, so sign up today!). Look at all these blocks!

Jocelyn, our pattern designer extraordinaire and brand-newbie sewer, is taking on last year's Chandelier Quilt-Along hosted by Lee Heinrich of Freshly Pieced! Her fabric selection was inspired by a painting she inherited that hung in her childhood home her whole life. Just look at those alluring greens and golds!

Fabrics shown: Cotton+Steel basics , American Made Brand Solids, Kona Solids and Stonehenge

Codi's love for sewing started just last year and she's already sewing projects left and right! She's even sewing samples for our tutorial videos three at a time! She could not wait to get started on Pat Sloan's Vacation Time Mystery Block of the Month using her amazing stash!

Just when you think she's done, Codi also whipped up the 2015 Aurifil Designer of the Month mini quilt. Doesn't it remind you of a snowy day? We're calling it a mini blizzard quilt!

Sarah is joining Sherri Fall's Mystery Mondays Sew Along! Every Monday, Sherri will posts her progress on her blog and instagram. If you want to join her, use #thisandthatmystery and sew along! We spy some Color Theory by V & Co. and Cotton + Steel Basics for Sarah's fabric selections! Follow her sewing adventure on instagram @spjenice.

Nova decided to join two different quilt alongs for 2015. She loves creating small blocks, so the Quiltmaker's Bitty Blocks Quilt Along is definitely up her alley! Her first blocks are sew sew cute! We love that she used her stash to create different bowtie blocks.

She also fell in love with the Lila collection by Dear Stella and decided to take on the  The Power of Nine Patch BOM with Sherri Noel Designs is hosting. It's a perfect pairing!

Our resident Social Media girl, Daniar, loves to sew garments but she's venturing into her quilting skills this year with the Moccasin Block of the Month by Gen X Quilter.

This modern quilt design is perfect in solids, Her fabric choice was inspired by one of her favorite illustrators, Helen Dardik. Follow her fun sewing on her instagram @dlistyasari.
Kona Solids and Cotton + Steel Basics

Do you know any Legend of Zelda fans in your life? Our resident Web Content Specialist, Kat, is a HUGE fan. So it's no surprise that she's joining the Legend of Zelda Quilt Along with Cora's Quilts

She's selected Grunge Basics by BasicGrey to tackle this conquest! This QAL starts in March, so there's still time to join!

Great run down on these blocks. I might do the bitty blocks--would be a great way to use up scraps!

Can't wait to see all these BOM blocks as they progress each month.
Kat, I'm with you! I started playing video games with my eldest grandson when they first came out, and we played every one of the Zelda games, which were our favorites. This grandson is now 36 with 3 children of his own, and I still love Zelda. At 79, I have never outgrown my love of video games, and still play when I have some time. lv2bquilting2@comcast.net

I'm with Nova on this. I just found this on Sunday, so only my January blocks are done. I've also decided to make two additional blocks each month, using Christmas fabric. One will be made into an ornament, and at the end of the year, the second will join it's bitty buddies to become a small wall hanging, tablemat, whatever. Such fun! Thanks!
