Hi everyone, it's Kimberly! Have you seen the April 2015 American Patchwork and Quilting Issue? Our quilty friends, Lissa Alexander, Edyta Sitar, and April Rosenthal designed three beautiful four-patch quilts for this year's quilt along, Go Four It!
I couldn't resist, I love simple blocks like the four-patch. They are timeless and classic, but yet so powerful. I thought Brenda Riddle's new Ambleside collection by Moda Fabrics would be perfect to use in my quilt.
This quilt was so much fun to make and it only took me two days to sew! I selected Lissa's quilt and added a Kimberly twist to it. Instead of sewing my quilt scrappy, I sewed it with one background and twelve different fabrics for the four-patches. For the layout, I created 12 rows with each row using the same fabric.
I love being able to cut my blocks down so I sewed my strips at 1.75" instead of 1.5." Then subcut them at 1.75" again. After I sewed my four patches together, I trimmed them down to 2.5" using the Creative Grids 2.5" ruler.
When I sewed my quilt together, I added 1/2" to the cut sizes of the setting and corner triangles. Then I trimmed the quilt down and it came out perfectly squared up and straight.
Then I added three different borders. My first border finishes at 1", my second bordered finishes at 1/2" and my third border finishes at 5".
And here is my final quilt! Thank you so much Nubin for the beautiful quilting, it looks stunning!
Don't forget to follow some of my quilty friends as they share their version of the #APQquiltalong
