When I look at quilting magazines, my eyes go to the colors first. I know that is a mistake because the pattern could be great but the fabrics used don't suit me. Some magazines provide a sample of the same pattern using different fabrics and which is a good idea.

In a quilting magazine, the cover quilt has to draw me in! Something stunning that I want to make, which means clean lines with bright colors or a fun scrappy look. Then I want a simple layout that is again, modern and clean. The focus should be on the quilts - the steps to make them - and the fabrics. Alternate fabric ways are always a plus! Tips or information on cool new gadgets are also welcome.

I look for essays, pictures. If there are patterns I want full-on pictures of the complete quilt, not just beauty shots. I like a magazine with an authentic voice. I guess, the same things I look for in a blog. There are a lot of places to get great patterns these days, which didn't use to be the case when I started subscribing to magazines. Now I want something to keep me company and give me something to think about and enjoy being with. Like a blog I can read in the tub.
