Hello everyone! We have some very special guests today on the Jolly Jabber! Bonnie of Cotton Way and Camille of Thimble Blossoms are here to chat about their new Miss Kate collection for Moda Fabrics. This is the sister collection for one of our all time favorites, Ruby. Read on to learn more about their inspirations.
Q: Tell us a little about the Miss Kate
collection. What were you inspired by?
A: First of all, thank you so much for having us! We are so excited
to tell you a bit more about Miss Kate today, and even
more excited that it is finally available. Hooray! When
we designed Miss Kate, we started with a name. We knew we wanted to name it
after Kate, my grandma Ruby’s little sister, and make it
a sister collection to our Ruby line. They play so nicely together, but Kate
has a bit more orange mixed in and some navy (our favorite right now!) in there
too. We had so much fun creatingquilts and allkinds of projects with Miss Kate, and still have a few more things in the
works… we’ll show you soon!
Q: What
are your favorite projects you've made from Miss Kate?
A: Favorite?
Hmmm… Well, I (Camille) would have to pick Red Letter Day,
since I love the way it turned out in Miss Kate and it
holds a special place in my heart. I
took it with me to Australia to
teach classes there in June, and saw so many beautiful blocks and met so many
wonderful people. (Hello Aussies!) I also made a mini version of Red Letter Day,
so it would probably be a tie between the two. (What it is about minis? I’m
hooked!)
Although
she has a soft spot for the Miss Kate Flannels, which makes it a
tough call, Bonnie’s favorite project is her Kate’s Big Day quilt.
She’s had a double wedding ring quilt on her quilting bucket list for
too long, and figured out a really simple and fun block construction method
that still has a classic feel. Oh! We’ll be hosting a sew along with the
hashtag #katesbigdayalong on Instagram soon (we are @bonniecottonway and @thimbleblossoms), so
come join us!
Q: How
would you describe your style?
A: With
our fabric collections, our style is what we would call “vintage
modern”. We love to mix some of our favorite vintage
prints in with some more modern and updated prints, and then rework and color
the vintage ones to have a fresh and modern feel. There is just something
so sweet and charming about vintage, isn't there?
Q: What
projects do you hope to see made with Miss Kate?
A: We are never very good at answering this question, because we love seeing
anything and everything made from our fabrics. Big quilts, mini quilts, baby
quilts, sewing bags, tiny clothes, patchwork pillows,
what did I miss? ;-) Really, everything! This truly is the best part for us,
seeing what everyone else makes from our fabric collections. We love seeing
what you are creating on Instagram , blogs, and Facebook.
