Designer Tidbits: Holly Taylor Designs
Eileen Taylor and Lynn Hawley Bloomquist of Holly Taylor Designs's newest collection, Enchanted Pond, captures the vibrancy of nature. Inspired by the world around them, Holly Taylor Designs has a knack for earthy tones, and this collection is no exception. Eileen is here to tell us a bit more about Enchanted Pond, so keep reading for a closer look!
Q: Where did you find your original inspiration for this collection?
A: We are constantly on the search for inspiration in nature. We are always inspired by the world around us. For Enchanted Pond, we wanted to see what our fans liked best about our previous lines and did our best to incorporate our most popular colors into this line.
Q3: What TV show or movie does your collection fit best in?
A: We think Enchanted Pond belongs in the film On Golden Pond.
Q: Tell me about your sewing machine. What kinds do you have and how many?
A: I have a Bernina. I love it, it is a great machine.
Q: What is your favorite part of the fabric industry?
A: My favorite part of the fabric industry is seeing firsthand how creative people are, and how this industry is kept so vibrant and new by that creativity.
Q: From what aspect of your life do you draw creativity?
A: Our creativity comes from the beautiful area of the country we live in and the nature all around us.
Q: What is your design process?
A: We actually draw first and then add all the detail in painting our designs.
Q: What is your favorite print in the collection?
A: Our favorite print in Enchanted Pond is 6501 the large scale border piece with the swirl.
Q: What is the most challenging part of the design process?
A: The most challenging thing we find is trying to stay fresh and new. Moda has many designers, our area is nature or Northwoods type designs so we have to stay within that realm.
Q: What are your favorite and least favorite colors and why?
A: We always seem to have the hardest time with blues. We both love the earthy tones of the greens and browns even though what could be more natural than blue skies, so it is always hard to find that right shade of blue. We will mix paints for days trying to find the perfect shade for the line we are working on at the time.
Beautiful!
