Modern Baby, the sweet new book from That Patchwork Place just arrived. This book is full of great baby quilt ideas for the modern quilter, and the modern baby. Quilts with a bit more punch to stimulate the baby's senses. Today, Dana of
Old Red Barn Co, Melissa of
Happy Quilting Melissa, and Amy of
Diary of a Quilter are here to tell us a bit more about their contributions to the book, which is packed full of patterns by a bevy of talented bloggers.
Hi! I'm Dana of
Old Red Barn Co and I'm here to tell you a bit about
Modern Baby's cover quilt! "Bubbles" uses one yard of background fabric and features a patchwork fish and bubbles across the front, perfect for any new baby. It's quick to sew and can be completely transformed by the fabric used. What about a shimmery rainbow trout? Or matching the nursery of the newborn baby? Plus, the negative space leaves lots of open area to enhance the design with your quilting. Texture. Color. And major cuteness. Perfect for the modern baby!
Hello! I am Melissa of
Happy Quilting Melissa and my contribution to
Modern Baby is titled "Daddy’s Little Girl". I have three little girls that have Daddy totally wrapped around their little fingers. Hence, the inspiration for the zig-zag that wraps up the quilt. I added an ombre-esque background moving from black to white to bring lots of modern flair, and combined with the quilting (which I did myself!), the little wrapped zig-zags really pop! And the final touch was the adorable tiny applique that references those little cuties that inspired the creation from the start.
Amy here, from
Diary of a Quilter! My contribution to
Modern Baby is called "Crossweave". This quilt- as with many modern quilts- was inspired by an old-fashioned quilt block. Using solid white updated the look and off-set as well as unified the busy-ness of the prints. I love that even though the quilt is made with one simple block, the resulting design looks much more complex. This pattern is also pre-cut friendly, using 2 1/2" strips and 5" squares.
