I couldn't resist, I love simple blocks like the four-patch. They are timeless and classic, but yet so powerful. I thought Brenda Riddle's new Ambleside collection by Moda Fabrics would be perfect to use in my quilt.
I love being able to cut my blocks down so I sewed my strips at 1.75" instead of 1.5." Then subcut them at 1.75" again. After I sewed my four patches together, I trimmed them down to 2.5" using the Creative Grids 2.5" ruler.
When I sewed my quilt together, I added 1/2" to the cut sizes of the setting and corner triangles. Then I trimmed the quilt down and it came out perfectly squared up and straight.
Then I added three different borders. My first border finishes at 1", my second bordered finishes at 1/2" and my third border finishes at 5".
And here is my final quilt! Thank you so much Nubin for the beautiful quilting, it looks stunning!

Gorgeous quilt, Kimberly.
ReplyDeleteThat is not only clever, but it's adorable! I love the way you used the fabrics and color. Even that little 1/2" border adds that extra special something to the quilt. I'm really inspired, Kimberly!

Love this lay out. How big was the final quilt?
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love this!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this quilt! I also love the idea of going a little bigger and cutting down to the correct size. It avoids the one square that just doesn't quite measure up. Really, really like your quilt!
ReplyDeleteGreat tip of starting with larger strips. That would certainly make my life easier :) Thanks!
